Employment Contracts & Staff Handbooks

Recent changes in various employment acts, mean that it is now more important than ever to furnish your employees with contracts and handbooks.

With the enactment of the Employment (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, employers must now provide new employees their 5 core terms of employment in writing within 5 days of them starting employment and the rest of the terms of employment must be given within two months of the employee commencing employment.

The Act also introduced banded hours; it prohibits zero-hour contracts except in the case of work carried out in emergency circumstances or to provide short term relief work to cover routine absences and it has also simplified the National Minimum Wage rates.

The agreed terms of an employment contract are of paramount importance in determining the rights and duties of both the employer and employee. Each employee must be given a written statement of their terms and conditions of employment, as per provisions under the Terms of Employment (Information) Acts, within two months of commencing employment.
All employer/employee relationships involve a contract of employment whether this is written or implied and it governs many aspects of the employer/employee relationship. It is important to understand what information must be contained in a contract of employment and be mindful that employers have a responsibility to issue certain terms and conditions to employees.

Performance Development Package

Induction and probationary period training along with employee performance development all in one complete training package.

Performance management is the activity and set of processes that aim to maintain and improve employee performance. Its aim is to ensure that employees contribute positively to your Business.

The HR Buddy performance Management structure will:

  • Save time & cut costs
  • Increase profits
  • Maintain buy-in and engagement
  • Provide a better customer service, product etc.
  • Achieve growth & sustainability
  • Lead to a happier workplace with less people management issues
  • Gain competitive advantage
  • Any business with employees should have a documented performance management structure in place.
  • If people are the greatest creators of value in organisations, then good performance management is critical for success.
  • Employees must understand what’s expected of them, and to achieve those goals they need to be managed so that they’re motivated, have the necessary skills, resources, support and are accountable.
  • Broadly, good performance management revolves around regular, effective feedback on progress towards objectives.
  • People managers are instrumental in performance management. Managers need to be suitably skilled and supported by performance management processes that are fit for purpose.

Occasional processes, such as annual performance reviews and pay setting, can be useful, but should not be the main focus.

Most permanent contracts of employment should provide for a probationary period, usually of six months in duration. The purpose of a probation period is to allow the employer a fixed period of time to evaluate the suitability of the new employee for their role based on performance and behaviour. An effective probation period aligned with a solid induction programme can guarantee your business and your people a successful future.
